Human or Not?

Human or Not? is a fast-paced social Turing game where you have just two minutes to chat with a mystery partner and decide: are they a real person, or an AI bot? Each round drops you into a short, anonymous conversation designed to test your instincts and your ability to spot patterns in the way someone writes. Sometimes you’ll be paired with a random human participant; other times, you may be talking to an advanced language model from the current generation of chatbots—potentially systems on the level of GPT-4, Jurassic-2, or Claude.

The goal is simple but surprisingly challenging: make the most of limited time, ask questions, notice tone shifts, humor, hesitation, personal detail, and consistency—then make your call when the timer ends. Because the chat window is brief, Human or Not? encourages focused, creative conversation. You can probe for lived experience, try trick questions, or simply chat naturally and see whether the responses feel human.

To play, you start a game on the website and you’re connected instantly. You chat until the two-minute session ends, then submit your guess: human or AI. Over time, the game becomes a practical way to explore how convincing modern LLMs can be, and how difficult it is to reliably distinguish them from real people based on text alone.

Human or Not? works both as a light social experience and as a hands-on experiment in AI literacy—revealing how language models handle small talk, nuance, personal stories, and edge cases under time pressure.
